I love bad guys. The villain of the piece has an allure for me that the heroes -- often liked -- do not. I obsess over the villains, too. My friends laugh about this, but I can't help it. I like my guys dark and deadly.
I could wax philosophical about why I love villains. Part of it has to be a bad villain makes for a good hero. You won't care about the good guy if the bad guy isn't bad. Part of it is that we spend so much time in society making things seem pretty and nice and good that we gloss over the bad or make excuses for it. I hate making excuses for evil, and a real villain doesn't need an excuse. And part of it is, I think it's very sexy. :)
To give you an idea of how much I obsess over the villains, I challenged my husband to name three heroes I adore. He named one right off (Luke Skywalker) and then spent about 15 minutes searching for another hero. Hah! He eventually found two (Sinclair from Babylon 5), three if we count an anti-hero (Avon from Blake's 7).
So here are several of my favorite bad guys. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Mekt Ranzz, Lightning Lord
Mekt Ranzz, from The Legion of Super-Heroes comic book, is the older brother of two Legionnaires and completely insane most of the time. I've always loved him, as he's such an unusual villain to me; focused on his family more than power and wealth or what-have-you. The image is a bit from a piece done by Tiril, a wonderful artist with a haunting style who drew the larger image inspired by one of my Legion fanfics. Click on the image to see more of Tiril's art. There are depressingly few pages devoted to Mekt and I may need to make him his own site.

Jafar
Jafar, the evil Vizier from Disney's Aladdin. There's a rule somewhere that all Viziers are evil and want to be Sultan. For weeks my best friend and I walked around quoting the movie and Jafar lines. He's so twisted, just like his beard. I have a few Jafar figurines in my home.

Scar
Oh, oh, I love Scar so much! So nasty! So evil! Such a marvelous voice! (I can't help it, I adore Jeremy Irons' voice.) Sarcasm, yum. I have Scar figurines everywhere, looking nasty and wonderful.

Slytherin
My friends were not surprised when the sorting hat put me in Slytherin. I find it amusing myself, because while I certainly love Slytherin, I really see myself as more of a Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. But I'm not going to complain. I think Draco Malfoy rules, Lucius is so wonderfully snide, and I've always been fond of snakes -- I owned two, after all. I'm of two minds on Snape. He's very mean, but then, he's got reason to be at times, too. He's complicated, and I like complicated characters.

Psi Corps
All right, I admit it. Psi Corps is not necessarily villainous. My husband says Bester is an anti-hero; I think he's a villain. Either way, he's wonderfully dark and deadly and I adore him to pieces. I have a psi-cop uniform I made and I wear at conventions. I love the Corps.

Sith
Despite an overwhelming love of Luke Skywalker, I am fairly well entrenched on the Dark Side of the Force. I've loved Palpatine forever. I thought Maul lacked intelligence and was mainly a red (and black) herring too stupid to realize he was being used, but man, can he move! Dooku suffers a poor name but has excellent taunting and Force skills, plus the coolest lightsaber around. Darth Vader pales for me beside Palpatine in terms of obsessions, but he is certainly impressive. And Anakin does dark and deadly very well.

Sid 6.7
I watched Virtuosity over and over and over again, because I was so enthralled by Sid 6.7. Well, that, and I worked in a movie theater, so I got in for free. Style, intelligence, mania, all in one package. What's not to like?

Grima Wormtongue
I'm not a Lord of the Rings fan by any stretch of the imagination. I found the books to be horribly boring (Yes, I read all three, plus The Hobbit, plus the Simarillian.) and not worth re-reading. Yes, I know, this makes me a heretic. So for the first movie, I skipped it in the theaters, but was impressed enough with the DVD to watch the second in the theater. When my friends and I left the movie, they turned to me to see my reactions, and I paused for a long moment, then gave in and said, "I'm totally in love with Grima Wormtongue."

The Goblin King
I wish the Goblins would come and take me away right now. There's really nothing else that needs to be said on this one.
